Astrid Köppe shapes her motifs in her mind’s eye before rendering them on paper in either DIN A4 or larger formats as enamels. She draws from a pool of directly observable and materially tangible experiences.

However, Köppe does not simply replicate reality. Instead, her focus lies on extracting and transforming specific details during the perceptual process. The original context of the motifs gradually loses significance, serving merely as a starting point for the creation of new, autonomous structures.

The resulting, predominantly organic forms develop a surprising and enigmatic life of their own. Whether as delicate, poetic drawings on paper or enamel on steel, Astrid Köppe’s worlds are both familiar yet strange and mysterious. Often, they are imbued with a good dose of humor.

Sujin Kim explores patterns of consciousness that emerge from the act of observing and perceiving space. Her work begins with aimless observation. To visualize the vague thoughts that arise from the constantly shifting visual movement through space, she layers bold brushstrokes on the canvas, erases them, and repeats the process again and again. In doing so, she creates images that exist at the intersection of inner reflections and external perceptions of tangible space.

With a keen awareness of the color spectrum, she captures the dynamic interplay of hues in these spaces. Her works reflect the organic forms and intricate patterns of nature, translating them into expressive gestures on the canvas. In vibrant colors, her pieces reveal a dance of light and shadow.
